Shreveport Sports

Athletic events and opportunities abound in Northwest Louisiana, providing Shreveport’s sports enthusiasts with a variety of fun activities in which to take part. From crowd-rousing games of football and rugby to one of the region’s many pristine golf courses, there’s something in Northwest Louisiana for everyone.

Shreveport’s sports organizations in the area take pride in what they do, and they’re always open to new recruits; the Shreveport Rugby Football Club is one such example. Founded in 1977, this club attracts hundreds of active members and teams routinely travel to other areas of the country to represent the region.

High school football is a big deal in Northwest Louisiana as well—a very big deal. Every year, Shreveport Independence Stadium plays host to 10 high school football teams from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi for “Battle on the Border.” The exhilarating atmosphere provided by some of the South’s top amateur players, combined with the electrifying energy put out by the teams’ cheerleaders, marching bands and pep squads, makes for an unforgettable experience that more than 22,000 spectators gather to enjoy each year.

For something a bit more relaxed and tranquil, enjoy one of the region’s many golf courses like Olde Oaks Golf Club, a unique course featuring 27 holes that was designed in collaboration with PGA Champion Hal Sutton. Whatever one's preference may be, sports in Shreveport offer a little something for everyone when it comes to maintaining active lifestyles.
